Today I crossed the line every aspiring writer both dreams and fears: I clicked ‘Publish.’ No turning back now. (Unless Amazon crashes, in which case… dramatic pause.)
Without further ado:
It’s funny how much time I spent with it, six solid months, but it still feels rushed. I’d hummed and hawed about marketing leading up to the release; worked out a little weekly marketing plan and everything. (Beware, you seven people who follow me on Bluesky, you four subscribers).
I decided not to for the debut title, though. The book is intended to be part of a series, and I’ve made the grown-up choice to wait to promote the series until the second is much closer to being published. That way, if someone does like the story, they won’t be stuck waiting a year and maybe get a bit more satisfaction after I got them all hyped up. Countdowns, promotions, cover reveals, sample chapters, those sorts of things. I’ve got plans. (Slowly backing away from his keyboard:) For Book Two.
With this one, I think I’ll be happy if I get one good review. Kind of a: Hey, you shared this story and I’m glad you did, type of a thing would really make my week.
Will I ever earn my first $4.99? Who can say? If I do, I’m saving that first dollar, though. It’s going to be framed here in my study.
